Common questions
I scanned the QR code but cannot join the game
Check these in order:
- Your phone has an internet connection.
- Camera access is allowed, so the app can read the QR code.
- Bluetooth and location are switched on and allowed for TagTown.
- The host has created the town and the lobby is still open.
If it still fails, ask the host to close the lobby and create a new one, then scan the new QR code.
Tags are not registering, or I get infected from far away
Tags come from Bluetooth proximity. Make sure Bluetooth is on for every player and that TagTown is still running (do not force-quit it during a game). The host can change the proximity sensitivity when creating the town: a lower setting means players must be closer together for a tag.
Walls, bags and crowded places can change how far Bluetooth reaches, so results can vary a little between phones.
The map is wrong or my position jumps around
TagTown uses precise location. Go outside, away from tall buildings, and allow precise (not approximate) location for the app in your phone settings. It can take a moment to get a good position after you open the game.
Which phones are supported?
Android 8.0 and later, and iPhone with iOS 15.0 and later. The lock screen Live Activity on iPhone needs iOS 16.1 or later.
The Live Activity does not show on my iPhone lock screen
You need iOS 16.1 or later, and Live Activities must be allowed for TagTown in your iPhone settings. On Android the game shows a notification while it runs instead.
Can I play with the screen locked?
Yes. While a game runs, the app keeps using location and Bluetooth when the screen is locked, so you stay on the map and tags keep working. Keep the app running during the game and bring a charged phone, because location and Bluetooth use battery.
How do I delete my data or a game room I created?
The app has no account, so most of your information lives only on your phone and is removed when you delete the app. If you hosted a game, the game room (game settings, host nickname and emoji, and the centre point of the play area) is stored on our server. To have it removed, email tagtown@locatelloapp.com with the room code or the nickname you used. Details are in the privacy policy.
Is TagTown suitable for children?
TagTown is not directed at children under 13. The app uses precise location while a game runs, so parents should decide whether their child may play and where.
How do I report a bug or suggest something?
Email tagtown@locatelloapp.com. Please include your phone model, the Android or iOS version, what you were doing, and roughly when it happened.
